Digging in Newington

Newington is a mostly residential town of about 13 square miles, with Cedar Mountain on its east side. Piper Brook and Webster Brook run through Newington, Berlin and New Britain, and UConn's climate resilience institute has studied that corridor for ways to cut flood risk.

Newington's Conservation Commission acts as the town's inland wetlands agency. Work that affects a wetland or watercourse needs its permit before it starts.

A building permit is needed before construction, alterations or repairs beyond ordinary repairs. The Building Department takes applications through its Online Permit Center.

Connecticut requires a Call Before You Dig request (811) at least two full working days before anyone digs with power equipment. When you hire a contractor, the contractor makes the call, and the utilities mark their lines.

On our jobs, we file the 811 request ourselves before the machine starts.
