Digging in Glastonbury

Glastonbury starts on the banks of the Connecticut River and climbs into foothills to the east. Roaring Brook runs through Cotton Hollow Preserve in South Glastonbury.

The town's Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency reviews work in a wetland or watercourse, or within the 100-foot buffer around one. Town staff can issue a permit for minor work in the buffer without a full hearing.

Building permits come from the Building Inspection and Zoning Enforcement division, and applications are made online.

Connecticut requires a Call Before You Dig request (811) at least two full working days before anyone digs with power equipment. When you hire a contractor, the contractor makes the call, and the utilities mark their lines.

On our jobs, we file the 811 request ourselves before the machine starts.
